Founder
The Haven of Refuge Community Resources is truly a pillar of hope and transformation for the far south suburbs of Chicago. With a focus on underserved communities, the organization strives to break cycles of poverty, violence, and despair through comprehensive, impactful programs. By offering after-school tutorials and safe havens for students, we nurture young minds while providing them with refuge from dangerous streets. Our advocacy and shelter services for domestic violence victims exemplify compassion and a commitment to rebuilding lives.
Through initiatives like Men Mentoring Men, Haven of Refuge addresses critical issues by guiding young men away from gang activity and towards meaningful employment, leveraging partnerships with local labor unions to create lasting opportunities. This approach directly tackles systemic challenges like high dropout rates, teen pregnancy, and gang violence, emphasizing the importance of building strong, self-sustaining communities.
Our philosophy of offering a “hand-up instead of a hand-out” reflects a deep understanding of the dignity and potential of every individual, driven by faith and humility. The Haven of Refuge’s mission is a testament to the power of service, rooted in the belief that uplifting others today creates a stronger, more unified community for tomorrow.
